  • 2 Day Exam Preparation Course - General or Residential (16 hour course)

    2 Day Exam Preparation is a fast-paced code study course focused on learning to use the code book in preparing for the State Certification exam.

    Effective January 1, 2011, the certification exam will use the NEC 2008 code book.

    Much of the class is dedicated to sample testing similar to state exams. It focuses on practical research by the students to find the answers to code questions rather than instruction by lecture.

    The 2008 NEC Code book is used in all 2011 classes.

    Prerequisites : 8,000+ General OJT hours and substantial knowledge of electrical theory and the 2008 National Electric Code (NEC) or 4,800+ Residential OJT hours and substantial knowledge of electrical theory and the 2008 National Electric Code (NEC)

    BICSI ITS Installer 2, Copper Training

    I Am Acquiring the Skills Necessary to Handle the Cabling Systems of Today and Tomorrow

    This 5-day course sets the foundation of a copper-based structured cabling system installation. The course begins with an overview of copper transmission principles, professionalism, life safety and general industry best practices, as related to copper. A significant amount of course time will then be spent on BICSI best practices for the installation, termination, testing and retrofitting of copper cable. Additional topics covered will include BICSI best practices for pathways and spaces; grounding, bonding and protection; and firestopping. Topics include:

    • Codes and standards/BICSI best practices
    • Copper transmission principles
    • Safety
    • Professionalism
    • Telecommunication pathways
    • Telecommunication spaces
    • Bonding, grounding and protection
    • Firestopping
    • Installation/pulling copper cable
    • Termination of copper cable
    • Testing/troubleshooting of copper cable
    • Retrofitting
    • Field coordination


    Who Should Attend
    ITS installers who wish to expand their knowledge of the industry, learn new skills and continue to advance professionally.

    Preparation
    The student must have at least one year of current and verifiable ITS industry installation experience. Reading the ITSIMM before coming to class is strongly recommended for class and exam success.

    Knowledge and Skills
    Must be able to distinguish between different colors and possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks.

    Course Materials
    WECA will provide each student with a print version of the ITSIMM to class, along with any errata sheets. The manual is included in the course fee. WECA cannot split the textbook and tuition costs. Personal or prescription safety glasses are also recommended.

    Review Course CEC Policy
    Take a BICSI-sanctioned review course, pass the exam, and get the CECs you need toward credential renewal! All students who complete a BICSI-sanctioned review course and pass the exam within seven days will receive the corresponding CECs for the review course. Click here for more information. All Installation Program students that take the course and pass the exam within the time period will obtain all of the CECs needed for their first renewal period!

    Exam Information
    A BICSI-sanctioned exam will be held at WECA on March 9th, 2013. A completed exam application and a nonrefundable Credentialing fee of $250 must be received by BICSI for processing at least 10 business days prior to the exam date. For exam information, including an application, please click here. Please note that while WECA is proctoring the exam, WECA will not be grading them nor handing out grades. Please contact BICSI for your exam grades.

    Fire/Life Safety Exam Prep (16 hour course)

    Fire-Life Safety Exam Preparation is a fast-paced course in which students learn how to use the code books in preparation for, and during the State Certification exam.

    Effective January 1, 2011, the certification exam will use the NEC 2008 code book and the NFPA 72 2007 code book.

    Learn valuable skills including:
    • Using code books to find information fast
    • Creating a plan to study for and pass the exam
    • Figuring out which code book you need to answer a question – fast

    This course is focused on giving students hands-on practice in interpreting exam questions and finding the right answers in a quick and systematic way.

    • Prerequisites: Visit the DAS website prior to enrollment to see if you qualify to take the exam.
    • Total Class Hours Available: 16
    • Standard Tuition Fee: This course is currently being offered at an introductory price of $295
    • Late Tuition Fee: We are not enforcing a late enrollment fee for this course during this introductory period.
